Hello I'm Rich Brown and this is my personal website and blog. I'm just your simple, average, down to earth, professional, out gay man and aspiring circuit boy, living in Phoenix, Arizona with a few things to say while trying to find my place among all the scary, conservative, religious nuts in this sick and twisted world.

The Matrix and Philosophy
@HOME. Ok so I finally finished my last book, The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand Russell last week and I'm proud to say that I'm now happy. Actually I wished I would have finished the book sooner then I did, but with everything that's been going on I haven't had much time or motivation to sit and read.
I'm now moving on to The Matrix and Philosophy by William Irwin. It's about the movie The Matrix and how it relates to Philosophy.
Amazon.Com Summary: The Matrix conveys the horror of a false world made of nothing but perceptions. Based on the premise that reality is a dream controlled by malevolent forces, it is one of the most overtly philosophical movies ever to come out of Hollywood. These thought-provoking essays by the same team of young philosophers who created The Simpsons and Philosophy discuss different facets of the primary philosophical puzzle of The Matrix: Can we be sure the world is really there, and if not, what should we do about it? Other chapters address issues of religion, lifestyle, pop culture, the Zeitgeist, the nature of mind and matter, and the reality of fiction.
I've started it and it seems pretty interesting so far. I used to think it had quite a bit of religious metaphors however from what I've read they are actually more of Philosophical metaphors. Anyway, I've really gotten on a Philosophy kick lately so we'll see how long this one takes. I enjoy reading, but just don't find too much time to do so. These type of books give me a change from the monotony of my daily technical reading, otherwise I would go insane. One can only read so many computer programming books and technical manuals. Alright, I'm really off to bed this time! Cheers.
My mother is reading this same book. After she told me this, I was quite embarassed to say that I was reading Jann Arden's latest book of selected journal entries. Mother cracks me up! She is definitely enjoying this book.
I think I have a Blogshare account but haven't messed with it since the day I registered on the site.
I've never been to a Pride event...but looks like you and your mate had great fun. Ice House? I don't remember hearing about that bar.
Kristine V is still around? WOW...I'll have to check and see if she has any new CDs out.
I was raised Greek Orthodox. Mother was Ismali. My father's mother, Buelita was Coptic Catholic so I know a great deal about the church. More than that, I have memories as a child being with Buelita attending Mass and praying the rosary with her prayer group. If anything, I find comfort in those memories. I do attend Mass with the Catholics. There is much that I do not agree with the Church, but I do it as a way to "talk to God" in his home. Sunday mass has been a family tradition and I it's just a part of me.
Oh....I loved the pics of you and your mate in suits! MEN in SUITS! YUMMERS!
Happy weekend!

Have you heard about the book entitled: On Bullshit by Princeton University philosopher Harry G. Frankfurt. A mere 67 pages and did I mention that the author is 70 years old?

Xavier my little Martini Piggy!!! Fancy meeting you over here at Rich's!! LOL
Rich I read every single night when I go to bed, that's how I get to sleep. Having said that, I simply would go MAD in 5 minutes reading all your techy computer books. (well especially since I don't know the first thing about computers, obviously) And the Matrix philosophy book sounds interesting.... I've never watched those movies, and now that you've mentioned kind of what they are about I don't know if I would ~~~ that would probably screw too much with my mind!! LOL Have a great Thursday Rich! :)
