Hello I'm Rich Brown and this is my personal website and blog. Stupid Ass People At Defensive Driving School
@HOME. So tonight was my 2nd and last evening of the wonderfully entertaining, Arizona Defensive Driving School. Rather then paying my ticket, getting points and a DMV record, I chose the other option of going to defensive driving school. It's supposed to save you money but the $120 cost only saved me $17 off of my ticket which would have been $137. Ugh what a waste of money. I'm a total moron but that's besides the point. Mainly, what it did save me is the probability of having my insurance rates go up from having a moving violation on my record. To me, that's worth everything.
I didn't know what to expect with this class. I've never been to Defensive Driving school before, no not because I haven't gotten any tickets, but because I just paid them and ended up moving to another state shortly after, so they never followed me. I haven't actually gotten a ticket in over 6 years and now I'm here in Arizona to stay for a while. Shit, I can't have this on my record, so school it was.
It was actually a pretty interesting 2 nights. (I had the option of weekend or evening, so of course I choose evening so as to not have to waste an entire 8 hour weekend day when it could be better spent at home with a hangover ;-) Just kidding!) The instructor, in his late 40's, had been teaching this class for over 18 years. He was a great speaker and pretty funny. There were around 50 people in my class.
I honestly learned a lot of things I didn't know. Not the kind of things that are taught to you by your parents or your driving manual, but rather the kind of information to help you make better decisions as a driver. Ok, I'm not going to get all self-righteous here and say I'm going to be an awesome driver because like everyone else I have my moments, but I do think it will help me consciously examine some of my more 'negative' and 'dangerous' driving habits so that I can make a concerted effort at trying to change them. (I swear I promise I will NEVER masturbate while driving and traveling 85 MPH on the freeway again! I'M KIDDING!)
Probably one of the most useful things I did learn from this class is that there are some really STUPID ASS PEOPLE out there. No seriously. Some of these people are just TOO dumb to be driving and should be instructed to leave their keys and just go home. One of the girls in the class insisted that it was completely legal to travel up to 5 miles an hour over the speed limit and persisted on arguing with the instructor about it. She is also the same 20-y/o girl who admitted this was her 4th moving violation, 3rd speeding ticket and also when shown a 'Do Not Enter' sign in class, she asked "What's that one for ..." Dumb ass. She wasn't the only one. Like I said, some people just shouldn't be allowed to drive.
So I'm done with that, and it wasn't at all painful. I personally think everyone should have to attend a defensive driving class before getting their drivers license. It may help people and in the end the time spent is well worth the information learned. Cheers!
Good for you Rich! We have the same thing here, I work at our affiliate to AAA. One of our novice drivers courses offers the defensive driving course right in it. Great idea, and I agree with you that everyone should have to take it. Have a great weekend!

I've only gotten two tickets in my life and have never had to go to a course like that. But I do agree there are a great many people who would truly benefit from a few courses. And an even greater number who shouldn't be allowed to tie their own shoes, let alone operate a moving vehicle!

Nice Blog -- I agree, Driving School brings out the winners. You have to wonder how they have gotten this far in life. Some are just too stupid to be ignorant.
