Hello I'm Rich Brown and this is my personal website and blog. I'm just your simple, average, down to earth, professional, out gay man and aspiring circuit boy, living in Phoenix, Arizona with a few things to say while trying to find my place among all the scary, conservative, religious nuts in this sick and twisted world.

Turn On the Radio and Dance
|
I still can't quite explain it but I've always had this draw towards dance music. Perhaps it's just the gay factor, who knows, but ever since I can remember I've enjoyed the sound, the beat and most importantly the mood which dance music casts over me.
I have to admit that I've been in a pretty foul mood all day today. Between work, physical exhaustion, and not feeling all that well, it's just not been a very good day. It feels like I've been sitting here all day waiting for Justin to finish up with work so that I could just pack up and head home. About an hour ago I finally found my fix by logging into XM Radio Online and hitting the BPM preset, which by the way is in fact the only preset I have programmed on there. BPM, or Beats Per Minute, is one of the XM Radio dance stations.
No matter what mood I'm in, I can turn on the dance music and it brings a smile to my face. Over the last hour my day just got better, and although I'm still ready to head home here soon, I know I'll be leaving the office in a much better mood. Sometimes I wish that I could explain to people how the music makes me feel, but I just don't have the ability to accurately put it into words. I do think that if more people would step back and just take some time to enjoy a little quality music, the world would be a much calmer place, and people would generally be in better moods. That's pretty much my dissertation for today. So I say ... Turn on the radio and dance people, it will make you smile and after all the world could really use more smiles these days. :-)

Home-Work
|
Not the homework you had when you were a kid, but more of the home-work you have when you own your own home. Justin and I have decided to finally complete a few of the lingering projects we've had around the house. Well mostly I decided, and Justin gets stuck with the mess and helping me with the work until we're done.
Actually the real reason for completing these home projects is that we've finally decided to get rid of our grubby old carpet and get new flooring put into the house. We really love hardwood floors, but with our 100# poochie they're just not practical for us, so we've chosen to have laminate wood planks installed. Something along the lines of 'Pergo' however a little better rated and actually individual beveled wood planks, so more of the hardwood look. We're going to get rid of all the carpeting throughout the house and have the planks installed in every room except the family room, kitchen and bathrooms, where we're going to eventually tile.
I can't even begin to say how excited I am about finally getting the floors done. We went with Flooring America of Mesa and they've been really great so far. They dropped off the flooring on Friday and are going to start installing it tomorrow. Because we didn't want to take on any major painting tasks after the new floors were installed, we decided that we had to finish all of that work now. This meant scraping the celing popcorn from the hallway, dining room and library celings and also painting those and the remaining unpainted bedrooms. I wanted to get this done before they start laying the floors so as to not risk messing them up. Quite a task to undertake, so let's just say it was a busy weekend spent moving things out to the garage, removing carpet, molding, popcorn and painting celings and rooms.
One of the good things about doing this is that we also rented a huge dumpster, which is currently sitting in our driveway, so that we could get rid of the old carpet and junk. I think I get the pack-rat from my Mother's side of the family, although it apparently skipped a generation with her, so I've really used this as a time to re-think everything I've been saving for the last 10 years. I've gone through almost everything and if it's something I haven't touched in the last year, I've thrown it out. Old books, files, computer parts, etc. All gone, and I feel so much better now. It's been sort of a cleansing experience.
Anyway I just wanted to write a quick entry since I haven't posed for a bit. We've been really busy and with all the home-work, I haven't had much time to sit in front of the computer and post. I do have some photos that I've taken of the mess, but I'll save them to post the before and after when this is all done. Alright well I better get back to work for now. Cheers!

Internet Profiles

I don't usually repost too many items I come across, but someone sent me this yesterday and I thought it was somewhat funny so I'm going to share it with the rest of you.

I believe I've seen this before in either Instinct Magazine or or one of the other gay rags, however I appologize I don't know exactly where this came from so I cannot quote the source or the author.

How Many Friends Have Touched Your Life?
|
It's an interesting question isn't it. When you really think back, how many people have come in and out of your life over the years? Realistically, it's probably many more people then you would actually guess off the top of your head. I've been thinking a lot about friends and friendship lately, and I've been very lucky to have had the privilege of being touched by so many different people, and I've been extremely fortunate to currently have several very great friends in my life.
I went through my photo collection from the past several years and have put together this collage of many of the friends who have touched my life in one way or another. While a lot of these people are still my very close friends today, others have come and gone, but will always hold a special place in my life. These photos are in no particular order.
[CLICK ON A PHOTO FOR A LARGER VERSION OF IT]
Going through all these photos once again really brought back many memories and gave me a few good laughs at how much fun I've had with many of these people over the years.
I really am grateful that I've had the opportunity to meet some many wonderful people in my life. My friends all mean the world to me, and I hope that I will continue to meet more amazing people who will touch my life in ways I can't even foresee.
I'm dedicating this post to all of my friends. You know who you are and how much I love you all. :-)

My Liver Needs a Rest!
|
For most people the Fourth of July holiday weekend brings potato salad, burgers, chips and a family gathering. Not for us gay boys, it brings yet another excuse to go out drinking and dancing every night. Now mind you when the holiday falls on a day like Tuesday (which it did this year) that means almost a week of drinking, starting on Friday and continuing all the way up thru the holiday on Tuesday.

My friend Philip was in town to hang out with us for the long holiday. No thanks to Philip, I lost my liver in the alley somewhere between beers on Sunday and double Kettle One on the rocks on Monday. It just wasn't a very pretty weekend. As is the norm for the Phoenix night life, we started at Amsterdam and then off to Charlie's where we ended up until 4am almost every one of the nights.
We all really had a great time over the weekend, but I'm certainly glad that I'm going to get some time to rest for a few weeks until Justin and I join Bernard, Philip, Tony and Mike in San Diego at the end of the month to do it all over again.Labels: Holidays
