Some Family History

How cute is my Mother, pictured with her cousin Joe Krempa in this photo taken at their First Holy Communion. Someone found this photo recently and sent it to my Mother last week.
I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this before but my Mother was actually a first generation American. My Grandparents were born in what was then known as Czechoslovakia but is now Slovakia or the Slovak Republic, and immigrated here through New York to Pennsylvania in the early 1900's. I wish back then European immigrants would have been more proud of their family heritage instead of pushing their children to be more 'American.' Because of this my Mother never fully learned how to speak Slovak, however my grandparents all spoke Slovak, Czech, Russian, Polish & Hungarian which disappointingly was not passed down to any of the children or grandchildren in my family.Labels: Family
