Hello I'm Rich Brown and this is my personal website and blog. I'm just your simple, average, down to earth, professional, out gay man and aspiring circuit boy, living in Phoenix, Arizona with a few things to say while trying to find my place among all the scary, conservative, religious nuts in this sick and twisted world.

It Feels Like Being In Another Country
|
As I sit here propped up in bed getting ready to call it a night, I can't help to look back on my past few days here in the Pennsylvania countryside just outside of Philadelphia and think to myself that it feels almost as if I'm in a different country. It's a somewhat surreal but real feeling I get inside whenever I find myself back here where I grew up.
After living on the western side of the country for nearly 14 years now, I'm no longer used to the lush green grass, overgrown trees, winding roads, historical stone houses, yards without fences, or dismal gray skies overhead which are very typical in Pennsylvania. Being here again brings back so many fond and vivid memories of my childhood and growing up here, but yet it couldn't feel any further from what I call home these days. I was raised in this countryside, went to High School here and even came back to work during summer breaks from University until I graduated and immediately moved to Arizona.
Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing place, and I couldn't imagine growing up anywhere else, but for me now it's different. It feels different. I can't explain it. It's more of a reminder of the past rather then the future, and a reminder of how much my life has changed since living here. We drove around a bit the other day and I can no longer remember which road leads to where or who's family lives in which house. Details which were once so clear, whereas now the specifics seem to elude me for no apparent reason.
I'm staying in this house with my Mother, my Aunt and my Uncle but yet I sit here at the moment feeling so alone and isolated. This week I've seen my cousins and old friends, all very happy and content, all with children and living the American Dream. Perhaps it's just a bold reality check to think this was the life I once thought I wanted. I couldn't have been so wrong back then.
Maybe things feel so different for me now during this trip because it's one of the first times I've come back here without a purpose. I'm here at the request of my Mother to accompany her back for the first time since she moved to Arizona. I'm not here to work, I'm not here for anything specific other then to actually visit my family, which of course is wonderful for the first few days until the realization sets in that I'm essentially here alone with nothing to do. Because my friends now all have children, a fun Friday night for them consists of playtime with the kids, and no longer means going out to a trendy bar in the city for Martini's. While I love my old friends and their beautiful children, somehow it's just not the same anymore. Maybe it's a bit selfish but around here I no longer have any friends with whom to grab a drink and stay up late talking about old stories.
I guess while I do feel like I'm a little out of place, it does make me appreciate the value of growing up in such a beautiful place. It also makes me appreciate my education and the life I've made for myself out west, because aside from the beauty of the countryside, it's apparent to me in so many ways that Pennsylvania still remains somewhat rampant with racism, homophobia and misplaced ideals. It's a place where the minute I step off the plane I once again pick up a heavy Philly accent, I return to use of the word 'wooder' when referring to water, and I find myself cringing inside at the things people say out loud. Cheers!Labels: Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Random Thoughts, Travel

Jonathan's Photo
|
Our friend Johnathan from Long Beach just sent me this photo of the 3 of us which was taken on the main deck during our Atlantis Cruise from Los Angeles to Mexico last October. I think it's a cute photo, we were all so tan then.

Justin and I are planning on doing the October Atlantis Cruise from Los Angeles to Mexico again this year. The rest of our crew was also supposed to go but in the past few months they've all decided to cancel in lieu of going on either a different trip or the 2009 January Atlantis Cruise from Miami to the Caribbean.
If it wasn't for the fact the fact that Justin has to bid for his vacation nearly a year in advance, we probably would have canceled as well and gone on the July Atlantis Cruise from Barcelona to Rome instead, but Justin simply wasn't able to shift his vacation time to a different week and he has to use it or loose it. Like I said in another post, friends or not, we make our own fun and we're outgoing enough that we always manage to meet new people and make new friends wherever we go, so I'm certain we'll have a good time either way.
Justin & I are also booked on the 2009 January Atlantis Cruise from Miami to the Caribbean as well, but haven't decided for sure yet if we're going to do that one or perhaps switch to one of the Atlantis European cruises later in the summer. I'm thinking a fabulous summer cruise in Europe might be a very nice change. I guess we'll see when the time comes. Cheers!Labels: Atlantis Gay Cruise, Gay Life, Travel

Labor Day NYC Work @ Stereo
|
All I can say is Yay! In just 2 weeks, Justin, Jerry, Philp and I will be in New York City for the Labor Day Weekend holiday. We were originally headed out to NYC to attend Alegria, a well known NYC Club Special Event, but it was cancelled due to their host site renovations not being completed in time.
Fortunately for us, Work @ Stereo is still going on and it sounds like it's going to be a blast. It's usually one night only but in light of Alegria being cancelled and the long holiday weekend they've split it out into 2 nights.

Mix the hot NYC boys, Peter Rauhofer, Offer Nissim, Eddie Elias and all that NYC has to offer, it's bound to be a memorable weekend. I'm excited about getting out to NYC again. Justin and I haven't been out to New York City since our last trip back in the fall of 2002. For as much as I love NYC, hopefully it won't be this long between trips again.Labels: Circuit Party, Dance Music, DJ Offer Nissim, New York City, Travel

Brian Schulze Is Hot!
|
When in Los Angeles last week I picked up a copy of 'In Los Angeles Magazine' It's the glossy entertainment, fashion, people, & lifestyles Magazine of Southern California, and I must say it is quite fabulous.

Well anyway I immediately recognized a familiar face on the cover, it was that of Brian Schulze, one of the bartenders from Here Lounge in West Hollywood. It was funny because Jerry has a photo of Brian from behind the bar at Here which was taken back in December, and Justin and I just saw him at an audition for a Aussie Bum Underwear Model on the Janice Dickinson show before I headed out to Los Angeles.

What I didn't know was that apparently Brian is also from Pennsylvania and a fitness trainer at Gold's Gym in Hollywood. It was an interesting article about him, and just confirmed something I already knew. Brian is hot! Anyway, if your in Los Angeles, pick up a copy of 'In Los Angeles Magazine' and stop by Here Lounge in West Hollywood to say hi to Brian.Labels: Hot Guys, Los Angeles, Travel

Today Was a Bust!
|
I totally wanted to go down to the Beach this afternoon before it got dark, but I got sucked into finishing a ton of work that I had on my plate instead. It was all things that had to be done, and I feel like I made a great deal of progress tonight, so I'm not that distraught over it. I still have a few days left here and the bottom line is that Los Angeles is so close I can always come back again.
I've been enjoying my time with Philip, although starting this afternoon I'm going to be alone here for a few days while he's out on a business trip today to Nashville until Friday morning. With the exception of going out the first two evenings, I've not really done anything but work and go to the gym since I've been here. I haven't even eaten anything in the last three days besides a few protein shakes. Philip jokingly said I was at 'Fat Camp' this week and I had to follow the rules. Now while I'm certainly not 'fat' anymore, I am trying desperately to have that six pack by the time I go to Florida in October. It's been good and I've noticed a significant difference in just the few days I've been here. I'm hope that with a combination of the strict diet, intense workouts and Creatine supplements I'm now taking, I'll be exactly where I want to be in another month.
Alright well it's getting late and I have an early call in the morning so I need to get to bed and get some sleep. I'll catch up more tomorrow. Cheers!Labels: Gay Life, Los Angeles, Philip, Random Thoughts, Travel, Working Out

Enjoying Myself In Los Angeles
|
So I arrived here in Los Angeles on Saturday evening around 10:30 PM. After finding my way to Philip's apartment and unloading my trunk of clothes for the week, we prepared to go out for the evening. First a drink here at the apartment, and then Philip and I headed over to West Hollywood to patronize some of the normal Saturday evening gay Los Angeles hang outs. The Mother Loade, The Abbey and then on to Mickey's for after hours.
Sunday was spent sleeping in and then heading over to the gym for a good workout. On Sunday evening we headed over to a club called Area which is typically straight, but was having it's monthly gay night event. The club was very upscale and the place was packed. Philip and I grabbed some drinks and melted into the crowded dance floor to enjoy the music. At one point I turned my head and Jai from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was standing next to me talking to a friend of his. Very shortly after, Carson Kressley walked from the VIP room into the bathroom right behind me. It's all still a bit surreal for me to be out here in Los Angeles and be constantly running into celebrities.
I spent the day today working am going to be on my way to the gym here shortly. I'm enjoying my time here, and it's been a good trip knowing that I don't have to feel rushed to do things. I think I could get used to it out here, but that's a yet another discussion left for some other day.Labels: Los Angeles, Philip, Travel

I'm Happy and Going to Los Angeles
|
So here it is, 2:30 AM and I'm laying here in bed waiting for Justin to finish what he's doing so that we can go to bed. We decided to head over to the gym tonight around 11 and proceeded to engage in a grueling 2 hour workout consisting of chest, back and then onto legs. We're trying to play catch up since the White Party is only 6 weeks away.
As I lay here thinking about my life and the events over the past few weeks I can't help to proclaim how happy I am. Life, work, friends, my relationship ... it's all going so well. I really couldn't ask for things to be better. And when it comes to work, I never thought I would say this because it's not something that I ever really remember experiencing before, but I'm absolutely in love with my job and what I'm doing these days. Everyday is a new challenge and they days just fly by anymore.
One of the perks of my new career is that I can pretty much work from anywhere I choose. Because of this I've decided to head out to Los Angeles this weekend and stay all next week with Philip and just work from Los Angeles. I'm actually looking forward to getting out of Phoenix for more then just a weekend trip to Los Angeles and being able to spend some quality time with Philip. I'm looking forward to testing out how the remote work environment is going to work out for me. I even think I'm going to take my laptop down to West Hollywood one day and sit at a coffee shop and just work from there. I think it will be nice to get out for a bit and take it all in. One of the other advantages of me going to Los Angeles for an extended time is that I'll get a chance to catch up with a few friends who are living there and I haven't been able to see much of lately. It's all good and I'm really looking forward too it.
Friday, March 9th is Philip's birthday and Justin and Jerry have decided to fly out to LA for the weekend and drive back to Phoenix with me on Sunday. When the flights are only $50 each way to LA from Phoenix, it's really hard not to just jump on a flight for the weekend. Bernard won't be able to make it because he's going to be in Hawaii sunning himself, which sucks but it's going to be a short weekend for everyone anyway and we'll all be together again at the White Party in the beginning of April.
Well anyway, it's getting to be about that time, I just thought I would write a quick post before bed. I really am happy right now and I'm looking forward to the future. Oh yeah, one last thing before I leave you ... if you haven't seen 'The Secret' I would suggest watching it. Justin and I picked it up and watched it on Saturday night. Now while it's similar to some other books I've read, it offers a very unique view point which I completely believe in. I discovered 'The Secret' on my own last year and it's really helped to change my life, so watch it and we'll discuss another time. :-) Cheers!Labels: Gay Life, Travel

New Year's Eve in Los Angeles
|
So Justin, Jerry and I have decided to head out to Los Angeles for New Year's Eve and meet up with the all the boys. It's sort of a north meets south type of relationship, in what we call the San Francisco Crew hanging out with the San Diego crew.
We're all converging in Los Angeles for the weekend to hit up the New Year's Los Angeles event sponsored by Masterbeat. Manny Lehman will be spinning, and it's suppsed to be the largest New Year's event in the country, so you know it's going to be one wild and crazy weekend.
THE MAIN EVENT:

THE USUAL SUSPECTS:
 | | | | | Bernard San Francisco | Philip Los Angeles | Justin Phoenix | Rich Phoenix | Jerry Phoenix | | | | | | Tony San Diego | Justin Dallas | Stan San Diego | Steve San Diego | Kendall San Diego |
WARNING:
If you happen to see any of these people, consider them all to be extremely well dressed and fabulous and avoid them at all costs for fear of having an inconcievable good time which could result in projectile vomiting.
I'm really looking forward to our trip and hanging out with my friends again. I'm actually going to be headed out a bit early to meet up with Jerry who will already be there, and Philip who will just be getting back from his trip to Europe. Justin and Bernard will be flying in on Friday night and we'll be meeting up with Tony and the rest of the boys on Saturday. Phillip has graciously agreed to accomodate all 10 of us in his apartment in Santa Monica. This is going to be one interesting weekend. Cheers!Labels: Bernard, Circuit Party, Jerry Timms, Justin Chanley, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Diego Boys, San Francisco, Tony, Travel

Back from Delaware
|
|
Yes it's true I'm back from the east. I got in early this morning. My flight left Philadelphia just in time as I heard about 30 minutes after I left the airport was shut down due to fog. I don't miss being back east. My trip was good, very productive to say the least. I did get a chance to drive up to Pennsylvania and spend one of the evenings with my Aunt & Uncle and have dinner with them. It was nice to see my cousins and their kids again. It's always strange for me to return back to the area where I grew up because I can't help to look around and think this is where I'm from, this is my family and this is the culture that influenced the first 18 years of my life. I got a little introspective for a day or two, it was wierd. The rest of my nights were spent in the hotel room doing some work and getting a little extra rest. I almost forgot how cold it gets back there. When I walked out of the office each night I was freezing as the damp, brisk, cold air enveloped my hands and face. It was 75 here in Phoenix today. I'm glad to be home. Cheers. Labels: Travel

Montreal Black & Blue 2006
|
Well here it is, the big 'Montreal Black & Blue 2006' post. Once again I'm going to combine the entire Circuit Party trip into one big post with photos. Before I get into the details I better touch on this really quickly, Black & Blue is one of the PREMIER Circuit Party events around the world. People come to this event from all over the globe, and I'll be the first to tell you that it certainly lived up to it's reputation. For those of you who are still unfamiliar with the Circuit and Circuit Parties, according to Wikipedia: A CIRCUIT PARTY IS a huge dance party, extending through a night and into the following day, almost always with a number of affiliated events in the days leading up to and following the main event. Circuit parties were first developed, in connection with the early tea dances and theme parties held on Fire Island, in the carefree days after police abuse and before the beginning of the health crisis. They came to resemble underground rave parties in some respects, but differ in that circuit parties are highly publicized and professionally produced, and tend to attract people from a wider age range and a broader geographic area. While open to anyone, the parties generally are viewed as social events for gay men. Circuit parties charge admission, with some being run for-profit and others benefiting charities, generally those which benefit the Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender communities or HIV/health related programs. Attending more than one party per year, due to a variety of factors such as differing locations, can be rather expensive. Even the most dedicated party-goers don't attempt to run the whole "circuit" - there are simply too many parties to make this possible. Gay men who are regular attendees at multiple circuit parties are sometimes referred to as circuit boys. Read More About Circuit Parties On Wikipedia
Woo Hoo! I guess by definition that officially makes us Circuit Boys. Now lets get to the story ... Wednesday Arrival in Montreal: After a long red-eye flight from Phoenix, and meeting up with Bernard during our connecting flights in Chicago, we finally arrived in Montreal around 9 AM on Wednesday morning. It was overcast, raining and not looking to be a very nice day. We caught a cab to our home for the week, the Delta Hotel on President Kennedy in downtown Montreal. Because we arrived a little early, the hotel wasn't going to have a room available for us until after 12 PM, so Justin, Bernard and I immediately checked our bags at the bell stand and headed up the street to scout out the downtown. Around Noon our room was ready and we headed back to the hotel to check in, nap and shower before Philip was going to arrive around 10 PM. Our room was on the 19th floor and had a great view of the city as well as an interesting vantage point of the building project next door. It was a suite, so it had a full sitting area as well which gave us all more room to spread out and get comfortable during our 7 day vacation. Thursday Around Montreal: Tony arrived on a red-eye flight from San Diego on Thursday morning. After milling around the room for a bit, we headed out to grab a bite to eat, did some shopping in the underground city and then jumped on the Metro to head up to the Gay Village for some shopping. We started with a little underwear shopping at Priape where Bernard and Tony picked up a few pairs of assorted Ginch-Gonch briefs for the weekend. One we all got our underwear properly situated, we headed over to Cuir Northbound for some leatherwear shopping. Marc, the manager from Cuir Northbound, was very persistent about getting one or more of us naked that day. Let's just say he achieved his goal by getting Justin to not only try on, but also get a 'personal' fitting for a leather jock with built in cock-ring. Of course Justin just couldn't resist the COCK-ring, so he ended up buying the jock. I think I've created a monster. Philip and Bernard also ditched their shirts and tried on a few things, however I just couldn't convince Tony to try out the Pony tail. Oh well maybe next time. We finished up our shopping and then headed over to Mado for a few drinks in preparation for the evenings festivities. Thursday The Jock Party: Thursday night was the first official party of the week, the Jock Party. As you might have guessed from the name and photos below it was a jock attire themed party. Around 10 PM we headed up to Parking for the Pre-Party and then around 1 AM we headed over to Stereo where the official party was taking place. Unfortunately we were not permitted to take cameras into any of these venues so most of the photos are before and after photos of the group. Friday Around Montreal: We stayed at the Jock party until around 4 AM when we headed back to the hotel. We crashed for a few hours and then headed out for some food and to trek around the city a little bit. I managed to catch the Round-Trip Ticket travel show on Logo which said that the best views of the city could be had from hiking up Parc du Mount-Royal to the Cross and looking out over the city from the top, so that we did. Philip being the ever consummate tourist, had an entire stack of printed maps and walking tours for Montreal so he knew right were to go. We headed up through McGill University to the park and then started our ascent up the hill and the steep stairs to the overlook. Once we got to the top the views were amazing. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful fall day in Montreal. After taking some photos of us all from the overlook we headed around to the path that lead down the back side of the cross. We actually almost headed back down the way we came and would have missed the entire out side of the city (thanks Philip!). Once we took this back path we headed down into the woods a bit until we reached a clearing where you could look out over the whole north-east side of Montreal. In the first photo below you can clearly see the Montreal Olympic Stadium in the background, which was going to be our Sunday destination spot for the main event, the Black & Blue 2006 Supersonic Party. We hiked down the park and then decided in reward for our ambitious day of being out of the hotel and trekking around Montreal we would stop at a local bakery and pick up some confectionaries, brie, salami, pate, and a sliced baguette for us to snack on back in the room before getting ready for the Leather Party. That's the one thing I miss about being in a city like Montreal ... access to wonderful small bakeries overflowing with fresh baked goods, quaint trendy restaurants, and small boutique clothing stores. I guess this is the reason why I enjoy traveling so much, to experience culture, other people, and the things I'm missing here in Phoenix. Friday The Leather Party: The main event of the night was the leather party. We snapped a quick fully clothed, pre-departure photo before heading over to Parking for the pre-leather party. Parking was crowded with so many leather clad studs, and within minutes of arriving, Junior Vasquez took the DJ booth, spun up some really hot beats and got the crowd cheering and dancing in a way which would set the mood for the rest of the evening. Around 1 AM we headed over to Club Medley for the main event, the Black & Blue Leather Party. We arrived, check our clothes and proceeded into the club in our leather gear. It was packed with old, young, short, and tall ... men of all types. David Knapp was spinning the main event and he took us on a journey for the rest of the night. While I like Kevin Aviance, I wasn't all that thrilled with his performance. It went on just too long and sort of brought everyone down a bit from their previous dance high. We danced with, watched and even touched a few of the hot leather boys until finally grabbing our clothes at 6 AM and heading back to the hotel. Once we got to the hotel we decided that since we hadn't had any photos of us in our leather gear that we should take a photo shoot. Let's just say the photo shoot went a little crazy and at the request (begging) of my friends, the photos posted below are pretty much the only decent ones that I was allowed to post. The rest, well you'll just have to use your imagination. Saturday Around Montreal: Bernard, Tony and I got up on Sunday morning and headed over to the Village for brunch at the Saloon. The food was good and the restaurant was packed with people while a live DJ spun some fresh beats at the bar. Immediately following brunch we headed back to the hotel to pick up Justin and Philip who we left there to get a few extra winks of sleep. Once everyone was ready we hopped on the Metro and headed back up the 3 stops from the hotel to the Gay Village to do a little more shopping. After finishing up shopping we decided to stop at the Sky Bar and grab ourselves a few drinks and get pumped up before heading out to what was promised to be one of the more memorable parties of the weekend, the Military Party. Saturday The Military Party: There was so much hype all week surrounding the Military Party that we couldn't wait to slip on our camo's and head out to the party. The event was held at Metropolis which was a converted theatre / opera house. We arrived around 12 AM and there were quite a few people in there by the time we got through security and up to the main floor. Manny Lehman was the featured DJ of the night, and once again he did not disappoint. Playing some of his featured songs like 'Someone to Hold' by Veronica and some new songs like Rosabel's mix of 'I Feel For You' by John Kano feat. Gia 7' We also met a few new friends and danced our asses off until around 6 AM before grabbing our misplaced clothing and heading back to the hotel for a little bit of shut-eye before Sunday's main event, Supersonic at the Montreal Olympic Stadium. |
Sunday Dinner in the Village: We got a few hours of sleep before getting up, getting ready and heading back up to the village for dinner and some drinks. Last night at the military we met a really cute, sweet and well mannered Irish lad, Rob, who was in town for Black & Blue. Apparently Rob decided to stop off in Canada for Black & Blue on his was back to London from his past work assignment in Sydney. He was staying alone at the hotel so we decided to invite him out on Sunday to hang and get to know all of us. We jumped on the metro and headed over to Le Planete in the Village for dinner. The food was good but the conversation was better. It's always so much fun to meet and get to know new people and fellow circuit partiers. I think the best part of dinner was the cute bartender that kept coming over to our table. He was so cute and became immediately flustered when I asked if I could take his photo. It was funny because after the photo, he could barely look at me and kept blushing every time I said something to him. I loved every minute of it. Following dinner we headed over to the Sky Bar / Sky Lounge for the Official Pre-Supersonic T-Dance for a few drinks and some motivation. The music was new, loud and hopping while the beer was going down oh so well. After a few pitchers of beer, some photos and dancing we jumped back on the Metro to head back to the hotel to get ready for the main event, Supersonic at the Montreal Olympic Stadium. Sunday Supersonic at the Olympic Stadium: The photo below was of all of us before we headed out to the Montreal Olympic Stadium. The party started at 10 and would go on until Monday at noon. We jumped back on the Metro around 11 and took it all the way up to the stadium to begin one hell of a long evening of non-stop dancing. My only disappointment of the weekend was that we didn't even try to sneak a camera into the main event because Supersonic was completely FUCKING off the hook. I actually had low expectation going into this event because we were told that it was 80/20 percent straight/gay crowd. This couldn't have been further from the truth, if anything it was a very much 50/50 mixed crowd, and the best part of it was that it wasn't your typical mixed crowd, no one really gave a shit about straight/gay, everyone just wanted to be there, have fun and dance. Thank god for the Canadians and their open mindedness. I so want to move there now. LOL. From the moment of walking into the Montreal Olympic Stadium it was clear to see why this party was one of the circuit favorites. There was seriously a damn airplane in the middle of the stadium with dancers on a stage that went completely around the front of the plane. There were 8 towers that were a minimum of 5-6 stories tall with motion club lights all over them sending your eyes into a frenzy as the multi-colored lights swept in music-coordinated motions across the 10,000 plus people dancing in the middle of the stadium. The sound system shook the stadium and everyone was half naked, laughing, dancing and just having an amazing time. Remember that scene in the Matrix II when all those people were in the cave dancing before the battle. Well that's about how it felt, raw, emotional and completely tribal. We danced through the beats of Charles Poulin, Antoine Clamaran, Chus and Ceballos, and ended with Mark Anthony. The DJ's were all pretty good, but Antoine Clamaran and Mark Anthony were completely brilliant. They both really knew how to work the crowd. We were dancing next to young, old, straight, gay and everything in the middle. There were so many hot guys with incredible bodies that everywhere you turned it was like candy to the eyes. We went for a non-stop bone crushing 10 hours of dancing before calling it quits around 10 AM and heading back to the hotel to get a few hours of rest before one last party of the week. I immediately crashed out dead cold as soon as I hit the bed. Monday Recovery Party: We all woke up around 6 PM and got ready so we could go to dinner and catch the final event of the weekend, the recovery party. The photo below was the last photo of the weekend. |
As you can tell we're all a bit tired and run-down. Everyone we talked to said that the Recovery Party was a definite do-not-miss party. We headed back up to the Village to have dinner at the Saloon and then headed over to Parking to catch the end of the Recovery Party Part I. The tragic part of that was that there were still some queens on the dance floor that we saw that went directly from 12 hours at the Montreal Olympic Stadium over to Parking for the Part I. They were so strung out that they didn't even bother to go home, shower or sleep. Silly Circuit queens. The music was good but we were tired. It was hard to get into the groove again. Bernard decided that he was tired, and his body was sore so he said goodnight and decided to head back to the hotel to get some rest. After a few drinks the remaining 4 of us started to get a groove on and decided at 12 AM it was time to head over to Stereo for the official Recovery Party with Victor Calderone. We got there and it was PACKED. Victor always draws a big crowd with his unique tribal beats. He knows how to work the dance floor and take everyone through a unique journey of music. I must say that I've seen Victor Calderone spin twice before in San Francisco, and while I've always been a big fan of his, this was my absolute favorite performance. He got the boys going so much that people were cheering, dancing and working themselves into a total sweat in the packed crowd. It was so raw and hot, I loved it. I would look up as the spotlight was turned on above Victor and he was grooving himself as he brought the music to an amazing high which just drove everyone over the edge. He must have been having an awesome time watching everyone go crazy on the dance floor. I think these DJ's have the best jobs in the world, but I'll save that for another post. We had originally planned on only staying there for an hour or so, just enough time to hear Victor spin and take in the last night of the party. Well at 6 AM we looked at our watches and decided we needed to get the hell out of there so that we could sleep for two hours before having to get up, pack, check out and head to the airport. It was a crazy night. The crowd was HOT HOT HOT and we didn't want to leave. It was the perfect ending to an amazing 7 days in Montreal. Tuesday Heading Home: We did manage to get a few hours of sleep before heading out. It was sad to say goodbye to everyone including both old and new friends. It was sad parting ways with the gang at the Montreal airport. It's always so much fun when we all get together and travel. We're really coming into our own these days and learning how well we get along together. Once again the five of us grew a bit, and learned so much more about each other. I really feel, as it does every party, that our bond together grew even stronger. We also had a chance to hang out with Bruce and Tracy who were just a few rooms down the hall, and meet some of there friends as well.. Going to these parties offers a unique experience and perspective as a gay man, and I wouldn't give that experience up for anything. When I first left Montreal I had mixed emotions about the whole week, but looking back now, I had an absolutely amazing time at Black & Blue. I loved spending the week with my friends, I loved the parties, and I loved the city and people of Montreal. Canada is such an amazing place and the Canadians are so damn nice. I really mean that. There's nothing like walking down the street in a new country, with a different first language and having strangers on the street smile and say hello to you. The people in Montreal were great, so very accommodating to us all, and the week was just one good time after another. I left Black & Blue 2006 with so many new memories and an even stronger desire to continue down this path we began earlier this year. I don't think Black & Blue is an event that will be a must-go for me every year, but it's definitely something I'm glad I did and probably something I'll do again in a few years. I think over the next several years we're going to try and branch out and try new and different parties all over the world. It's a chance for us to travel, meet new people and see what we like. Once we figure that out, we can then start going back to our favorites. I'm looking forward to the next several years with Justin, my friends and our status as full-fledged Circuit Boys. Cheers! DJ Brett Henrichsen & Masterbeat
|
@HOME. When I got home from work yesterday Justin handed me a surprise from the mail, "S.P.F. 20 (Summer Party Favorites Top 20)", the latest Masterbeat CD release. It just so happens that I'm on the Masterbeat mailing list, so I receive new CD releases automatically, usually a little earlier then they're released to the public. I've actually been looking forward to getting this CD from the moment I heard about it and I have to say that I'm not at all disappointed. The music is awesome, and it's some of the newest stuff which we heard in the London Clubs.
I first discovered Masterbeat and it's founder, DJ Brett Henrichsen, back in 2001 when I was living in San Francisco. Justin, my friends and I saw him spin a few times at Universe in San Francisco and it was always a great time with an amazing set of music. Brett lives in Los Angles where Masterbeat is located and he spins at circuit parties and dance events all over the world. I really love his mixes and the entire Masterbeat CD collection (yes I have them all ... ) It seems like Brett always manages to keep ahead of the curve with his mixes and the music. (Yeah, he's pretty damn hot too I might add!)
DJ Brett Henrichsen & Masterbeat Entertainment
Brett probably ranks up there as one of my favorite DJ's along with Victor Calderone, Manny Lehman, Susan Morabito, Peter Rauhoffer and David Knapp. Masterbeat has also commissioned artist Joe Phillips to do the album/cover artwork for some of the recent Masterbeat releases. If you are in need of some new and updated club music, go check out the Masterbeat Website.
Here are the covers from the Masterbeat CD's over the past few years.

Home in Phoenix from Vacation
|
@HOME. We'll I must say that it's nice to be back home. I really enjoyed our trip, but by the end of it I think both Justin and I were getting pretty tired and ready to head back home. We both missed our little Berger who had his own vacation with Mark, Andrea, Zach & Koda.
Our trip home was long and exhausting. We took a cab from our hotel in London to London Heathrow Airport where we flew 8 hours to Chicago. Once in Chicago we had to pick up all our bags and go through U.S. Customs, which resulted in a secondary screening of our bags. We then headed to our terminal only having to go back through airport security to get to our gate. Once at our gate we found out our flight to Phoenix was delayed by an hour due to bad weather in Chicago. (I hate flying in/out of Chicago, I always have weather delays or cancellations there!) We were finally able to board the plane and taxied out to the runway only to find out we were 21st in line to take off, which meant that we sat on the runway for another hour. The flight time to Phoenix was only about 3 hours but at this point it was the equivalent of 4 am London time, so Justin and I were both tired and ready to get home. On our descent into Phoenix, an elderly woman a few rows in front of us started to have a heart attack. So the flight attendant and a Cardiologist who happened to be on our flight put her on the floor and started to help her as we landed. We had to wait for the paramedics to come on board and get her once we arrived at our gate. I heard from the flight attendant that the woman was going to be alright which was good news. It was a really long day by this point.
Mark and Andrea picked us up from the airport and took us back to our house where we talked for a little while about our trip and then went over to pick up Mr. Berger. He was very happy to see us both, jumping around like a mad-man. Poor Justin, he had to work in the morning, but I don't have to go back to work until the 13th, so I've had a few days now to relax a little.
All said and done, our trip was awesome and we'll have many great photos and memories from it, but I'm really happy to be back home in our house again! I'm looking forward to the warm Phoenix weather for a few months so we can go swimming and hang out by our pool. I have a ton of other photos that I will try and post when I have some time. For now, I'm off to enjoy the day! Cheers!Labels: Travel

Jack the Ripper and Les Misérables
|
@HOTEL. Well tonight is our last night in London and we head back to the states tomorrow. Last night we were finally able to do the Jack the Ripper Guided Walking tour and it was awesome. Our guide was really cute and he was a great speaker. There were about 50 people in our group and it was very interesting. I never knew how brutal the murders were. The most interesting part of the trip was hearing the history of London and how the city was in 1888. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who might find themselves in London. Next time I think we'll do the Pub walking tour as they have several ones which you can read about at London.Walks.Com. After our tour we walked over to St. Paul's Cathedral and around the city for a bit before heading back to SOHO and grabbing dinner and a bottle of wine at a nice little Italian restaurant. I'll post some pictures after I get back home.
The weather was absolutely beautiful today. We got up early and went to breakfast and then got our tickets for tonight's show of Les Miserables. We spent most of the day walking around, making our way through Green Park and shopping at Lillywhites. So this evening we went to see Les Miserables at the Queen Theatre and the show was amazing. I can't even begin to explain how complex the stage set was, and how wonderful the performers were. I really enjoyed the show and I'm glad we got a chance to see it in London. It's been a great day and a nicwrap-upup to our trip. Alright we'll I'm off to pack and get ready for our long trip home tomorrow. Cheers!Labels: Travel
